Dynamic Linking between maps is an important tool in data interpretation and one of my favourite features of Oasis montaj. In Target, linking between a section map and a plan map is a very handy way to verify the section location.
The Shadow Cursor tool can be activated from the toolbar button or using the keyboard shortcut Alt+C. In addition, the All Maps button can be used with the Shadow Cursor to zoom in to the same location and extents on several maps at the same time.
A lesser known tool is the Shadow Cursor Data Linking. This button activates when there is a group on the map that was plotted from a Geosoft database (GDB) such as a Line Path or Symbol group. When the Shadow Cursor Data Linking tool is selected, clicking on the map will link from a vector feature (line or symbol) to the location in the database. This is especially useful when the database is arranged in lines or groups, including drillholes traces and downhole data plotted in section!
In the next version, the shadow cursor will also link between views within a single map. This includes maps with regional inset views, maps with identical views that display different types of data (such as gravity and magnetics), and Target section maps containing plan views.
